You Don’t know what you Don’t know!

My mother smoked cigarettes and drank alcohol while she was pregnant with me.

She loved telling me about how I kicked the ashtray off her belly. Back then in the 60’s, they thought the placenta would protect the baby from anything ingested.

I ate hot dogs and lemonade almost every day for lunch while I was pregnant. I knew by then in the 80’s that alcohol and cigarettes were a no-no.

But lemonade and hot dogs?

Come on! What is so bad about that?

Well, you don’t know what you don’t know.

Soon after my little bundle of joy was delivered I enrolled in nursing school. That is when my journey began. Learning about how absolutely amazing and complicated our bodies and minds are opened up a whole new world to me. My early journey as a nurse helped me understand physiology and how medicine worked. It led me to cross paths with and meet many wonderful people.

I have always been drawn to the earth though. As a child, I would pick the juicy peach while my friends were filling up their bag of penny candy. As a teenager, I enjoyed spending my time in the garden rather than listening to music or watching t.v. Who else has eaten sun-warmed tomatoes right off the vine?

Over the years I have been drawn more and more to the benefits of food and fitness to transform my life.

I struggled with gastrointestinal issues for approximately 17 years. These GI issues (ok, I will just come out and say it–chronic diarrhea) caused a multitude of other issues like osteopenia, B12 deficiency, anemia, etc. I saw several GI specialist that immediately gave me medication that either made my symptoms worse or just made me feel awful in general.

I started to do my own research and was able to completely reverse this problem along with the other health issues that tagged along. I have also been able to reverse other health conditions using –
