The COVID-19 pandemic created a shift for many of us. It has hit some harder than others, but it has affected EVERYONE.

It has exposed our vulnerability.

Mortality and morbidity can hit anyone at any time, including those we love.

We can lose our jobs, our home, our food, our security, our freedom, our self-respect, and our dignity.

For some of us, it has opened our eyes to the ugly truth. We cannot trust our government or our leaders. Even our national and world health organizations have let us down.

There is still a lot we don’t know but there is also a great deal we have learned.

For instance, we have discovered the importance of maintaining a healthy terrain and how it can be the difference between getting really sick and possibly dying or not having any symptoms at all.

I am not just talking about Covid-19 but many other viruses, bacteria, and harmful pathogens.

What is your “terrain”?

It is your body. From your head to your toes, your body is constantly fighting to maintain an equilibrium. It balances ph to keep you alive, it decreases and increases your blood pressure, heart rate, breathing, and digestion. This is called homeostasis, and it is nothing short of miraculous.

author profile pic

No matter how bad we treat our body, it continues to work hard to keep us alive. When we don’t eat right, move often enough, get proper sleep, sunlight,  or when we allow stress in our lives, our body/terrain becomes stressed and weak.

An unhealthy terrain invaded by a pathogen cannot fight as well as a healthy terrain.

Chronic disease is another byproduct of an unhealthy terrain. Diabetes, heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, and many other diseases are all caused by an unhealthy terrain.

So what do we do?

A healthy terrain depends on:

Nutrients for our body
Oxygen to nourish our cells
Sleep to regenerate and repair
Stress management
Sun, fresh air, and nature.

The Healthy Tomato is here to bring information that I hope will be helpful to support my readers on their journey to a healthier terrain.

Hi there! My name is Lisa and I am a retired RN.

I have seen a lot of pain and suffering throughout my career due to poor lifestyle choices.

As a nurse, I learned a lot about chronic disease and how it is managed and treated with medicine (aka band-aid on a bullet hole).
There was not a lot of training for us as nurses regarding the prevention of illness.

I think that is changing now but at the time the education was heavy on the treatment for the ill.

It was only after I studied nutrition on my own that I was able to turn my own health around.

Now, I want to help others by providing information that will help them become healthier and happier as well.

You can learn more about my story here.
